BRM Run with the Legends Contest

This week the Blue Ridge Marathon announced the Run with the Legends contest. Two lucky contest winners will get to join Bart Yasso, Frank Shorter, and Bill Rodgers on a five-person relay team at the Blue Ridge Marathon on April 20, 2013 in Roanoke, VA.

As if that isn't cool enough, you can also win the following:
  • Two night stay at Hotel Roanoke (nicest hotel in Roanoke)
  • $500 for travel expenses
  • Pre-race pasta dinner where the legends will be speaking
  • Custom InMotion stabilizing orthotics from Foot Levelers
  • Autographed copies of books written by Yasso, Rodgers, and Shorter
  • Plus "lots of photos and other goodies"

There are two ways to enter, both of which involve submitting photos. You can upload your most inspiring running photo, or you can submit a picture of the most creative display of the Blue Ridge Marathon Logo (they are looking for creative placement that tells other runners about BRM).

You can submit photos through January 31, 2013, then you can have your family and friends vote for your photo between February 1 and 14. The top 20 photos in each category will be voted on by Bart Yasso, Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, and members of the race committee.

So if you're interested in running with some seriously legendary runners and winning some great swag, be sure to check out the contest page HERE. I'm not entering only because I'm hoping to run the full marathon, but let me know if you enter! And good luck :)

"Never limit where running can take you." - Bart Yasso

"Hills are speedwork in disguise" - Frank Shorter  <-- You'll definitely get a lot of "speedwork" at BRM!

"Anybody can be a runner. We were meant to move. We were meant to run. It's the easiest sport." - Bill Rodgers

September & October in Review

It wasn't until halfway through October that I remembered I hadn't done a recap of September, so I decided to combine it with October's recap...and here I am already 7 days into November and just now getting to it! I'm going to make this quick because the bike trainer is calling my name...

September's Stats:
  • Running miles in September: 74 - second highest month this year! This included 4 long runs of 11, 7, 12, and 13 miles.
  • Walking miles in September: 18 - this is mostly during lunch
  • Cycling miles in September: 44 - meh

Nothing worthy of a blog post happened in September ;)

October's Stats:
  • Running miles in October: 57 - this included long runs of 14, 8, and 10 (race) miles.
  • Walking miles in October: 14 - I think I forgot to record some of my lunch time walks
  • Cycling miles in October: 55 - it's time to start riding on the trainer...

October included a new 5K PR at the Star City Women's 5K and a 10 Mile PR and AG award at the Greenway Memory Miler.

I also got a new GPS watch after it became obvious that my old one was dying. Who doesn't love getting a new running toy?

YTD mileage totals:
  • Running miles: 519
  • Cycling miles: 899

Everything has been going pretty well recently. I have less than a month left of no driving and I'm super happy to report that I haven't had another seizure. I'm finally feeling pretty confident that I won't be having another one any time soon (obviously I don't know when I'm going to have one, but still...).

I've hit a little bump in the road this week after rolling my ankle on my long run this past Sunday. It didn't really hurt too much when it happened, so I kept running on it. I could really feel it the next day...and I still feel it. I'm going to be smart and NOT run on it until it feels all better.  Hopefully it's nothing major.

I don't have any races on the calendar this month or next, so my goal is to continue building up my long runs, be consistent with running, cycling, and weight training, and make it through the holidays without gaining too much weight. - Let's eat enough to feed a third-world family for a month

With it getting dark earlier now, my next adventure will be learning how to run in the dark without falling on my face or freaking out. I'll let you know how it goes!
